About La Grange and LaGrange Highlands Located just 13 miles west of Chicago, the picturesque village of LaGrange, Ill., is enchanting and family-oriented. In 1870, visionary businessman Franklin Dwight Cossitt built his "dream" town, and today, LaGrange is considered a dream town by most of its 15,000+ residents. Home to more than 600 businesses employing thousands of people, LaGrange enjoys a vibrant downtown business district made up of more than 300 shops with neighborly merchants dedicated to offering quality products and personal, small-town service. LaGrange is served by two commuter rail depots and is equidistant from Interstates 90, 55 and 294 with more than 1,000 parking spaces convenient for commuters and shoppers.
A few homes in town were designed by Frank Lloyd Wright, and much of the village’s early history is preserved in its many finely restored Victorian, Queen Anne, Vernacular and Prairie School style homes. LaGrange has an excellent educational system anchored by Lyons Township High School. Six elementary schools and two junior high schools serve over 2,500 students and there are several private schools in the area.
